Pat Hughes – Miss Liverpool City Region Director
Pat Hughes has been the heart and soul of Miss Liverpool since 2002. What began as a one-off opportunity to help with photography at the Miss England heats quickly grew into a passionate new chapter for Pat, who had previously spent decades in finance. With a keen eye for organisation and a deep sense of care for every contestant, she transformed the competition into a true celebration of confidence, community, and kindness.
Known affectionately as a "surrogate mum" backstage, Pat creates an atmosphere of sisterhood and support that sets Miss Liverpool apart. From organising hair and makeup teams to arranging outfits and ensuring every contestant gets fair rehearsal time, Pat works tirelessly to make the experience unforgettable for everyone involved—regardless of background or budget.
Over the years, Pat has helped launch the journeys of many well-known names, including Amy Jackson and Christine McGuinness, while staying in touch with dozens of past contestants who still call her a friend. Her dedication, warmth, and fairness have made Miss Liverpool not just a competition—but a cherished milestone in so many young lives.
Despite her success and the chance to slow down, Pat has no plans to step away. She continues to bring her trademark energy and care to every event, proud to lead a contest remembered not just for crowns, but for confidence, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories.
To help things run smoothly and keep the competition fresh and modern, Pat has been working closely with the current Miss Liverpool, Charlotte Grant, to update the website, refresh our social media, and rebrand Miss Liverpool ahead of this year’s competition—which is shaping up to be our best one yet.
Beyond her work with Miss Liverpool, Pat is deeply involved in charity and environmental causes. Since 2020, she has served as the Liverpool City Region Ambassador for WASUP (World Against Single Use Plastic), a role appointed by Dr. Rashid Gatrad OBE. Pat plays a key role in educating young people about the dangers of single-use plastic through school presentations and assemblies, and her poem is featured in the WASUP storybook. The organisation also partners with the Miss England competition, with former Miss Englands acting as ambassadors and even traveling to India.
Pat has a long history of fundraising for a variety of causes. She has abseiled down cathedrals, walked barefoot on hot coals at 1200 degrees, organised shows, and even rode her bike around the city at 72 years old, dressed in hot pants and three-quarter white boots, to promote charity events. At 74, she ran her first marathon—without any training—showcasing her determination and zest for life.
In addition to these efforts, Pat has volunteered at Zoe’s Baby Hospice for over 11 years and is an active member of the Mr. Old Hall Street team, helping provide essentials like sleeping bags, tents, and clothes to the homeless. A firm believer in the power of charity, Pat encourages others to get involved, drawing inspiration from Miss England and Miss World contestants who are also dedicated volunteers.
Through her passion for both community and charity, Pat continues to make a lasting impact, inspiring others to give back, support meaningful causes, and build a stronger, more compassionate world.
